Member of Scout Ranger unit under investigation for ‘violation of policies’
MANILA, Philippines—An Army soldier is being investigated for “violation of policies and articles with respect to civilians,” the military said.
Reports from civilians prompted the unit of Sergeant Rolando Bolon of the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion to conduct an investigation for an incident which allegedly transpired on August 15 in Candoni, Negros Occidental, said Army’s 3rd Infantry Division spokesman Major Enrico Ileto.
Under Articles of War 105 (powers of the commanding officer) Ltc Oriel Pangcog, Commanding Officer of the 1SRB is putting Sgt Bolon under restriction in camp for 60 days (leaves and liberty privileges suspended) and will be reprimanded (1 year non-promotable status) without prejudice to Admin and Civil liability, said Ileto.
He will also be required to undergo seminars and training related to upholding of human rights, International Humanitarian Law and rule of law while confined in camp.
Meanwhile, Colonel Oscar Lactao, 303rd Brigade Commander also instructed other units to conduct an independent investigation on the said incident, said Ileto.
“A soldier is still considered innocent unless proven otherwise but reports like this will be treated with utmost importance,” Lactao said.
