Taxi driver dead, cop wounded by irate motorbike rider
MANILA, Philippines – A taxi driver was dead on arrival and a policeman critically injured when an irate man who was previously chastised over the noisy engine of his motorcycle shot them several times in Caloocan City, on Sunday night.
Marlon Maguigad, 28, sustained one gunshot wound in the head after the suspect, whom police identified as CJ Tan, attacked him using a handgun.
Maguigad was declared dead on arrival at the Manila Central University Hospital.
His companion, PO1 Mark Anthony Padua of the Northern Police District, meanwhile, remains in critical condition in a hospital after sustaining a single shot to the body.
The shooting happened at 10:45 p.m. on Salvador St. in Baesa.
“The two and a few others were merry-making in front of Padua’s house past 10 yesterday (Sunday) when Tan’s brother-in-law, Jimmy Ordinario, appeared out of nowhere. He confronted Padua, asked him why he had scolded Tan while he was driving in the neighborhood earlier in the day,” PO3 Joselito Barredo of the Caloocan City Police told the Inquirer.

Tan then started shooting at the other merrymakers once outside the house, hitting Maguigad in the process.
Both he and Ordinario fled on foot after the shooting, leaving the motorcycle behind, Barredo said.
The vehicle is now in the custody of Barangay 160 officials.
Meanwhile, Ruben Maguigad, father of the slain taxi driver, mourned the death of his son in an interview. He, however, said he would not, as of press time, press charges against Tan and Ordinario.
Senior Supt. Jude Santos, chief of police, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that it would be the police who would file criminal raps against the two.
