Palace dismisses colonel’s video rant as ‘motherhood statements’

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang dismissed as “motherhood statements” the concerns made by a military colonel in a video just before he retired over the weekend.

As such, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte indicated that Malacañang would not investigate the basis of retired Col. Generoso Mariano’s allegations against the Aquino administration.

“The points that he raised are motherhood statements. He has no specific points,” Valte said in a news briefing early Monday afternoon.

The spokesperson said Mariano did not say that he had personal knowledge of issues he was raising, including the reasons why he had not been promoted to a higher rank.

“He will have a venue to explain those statements,” Valte said. She said it would be up to the Armed Forces to look into Mariano’s statements.
