THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas Passerelle team kicked off its title drive on a winning note as it outlasted the University of San Carlos, 53-46, in the 2012 Milo-backed Best Twin Tournament Cebu yesterday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue, Cebu City.
Last year’s losing finalists and the reigning SBP Under-16 national champions started off hot but tapered off near the end, which allowed USC to cut a 20-point deficit in the fourth to just six with 13 seconds remaining. But time ran out on the Baby Warriors side.
In another match in the Passerelle class, the University of San Jose-Recoletos downed Southwestern University, 71-39.
In the Small Basketeers of the Philippines (SBP) division, UV shocked SHS-AdC, 49-40, for its second win in a row while USC also notched its second straight win with a 58-38 shellacking of the Cebu Eastern College. The University of San Jose-Recoletos also defeated Don Bosco, 46-21, to even its standing to 1-1 (win-loss). /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
