MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Igme” (international codename: Tembin) continued to intensify as at moved in a northward direction at 11 kilometers per hour, the state-run weather bureau said Tuesday.
As of 4 a.m., Igme was located 380 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 160 kph and gustiness of up to 195 kph.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration raised public storm warning signal No. 1 in Batanes and Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan group of islands.
Pagasa said Igme was expected to enhance the southwest monsoon that will bring light to moderate rains over Luzon especially the western section (Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Batangas and Mindoro).
Pagasa warned fishing boats and other small seacrafts against venturing out into the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to big waves caused by the typhoon and the southwest monsoon.
