PAL airlifts bananas for flood victims

Tons of Tutti-Frutti bananas await loading into the cargo hold of a PAL flight from Cagayan de Oro City for distribution to flood victims in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

MANILA, Philippines–Philippine Airlines recently airlifted tons of export-quality Tutti-Frutti bananas for distribution to victims of floods spawned by the southwest monsoon in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces.

The fruits, sent over by Cagayan de Oro Eco Warriors, were airlifted from Cagayan de Oro City for free through the PAL Humanitarian Cargo Grant.

The bananas are of the hardy Cavendish variety which do not bruise or rot easily, and can withstand the many stages of handling and transport to thousands of families devastated by torrential rains.

PAL also airlifted the following: bananas from Fedco, a major fruit producer in Davao City, whose donation was coursed through the Rotary Clubs of Davao and Makati; canned tuna from Gensan and Saranggani; and 40 tons of fortified food for children courtesy of the UN World Food Programme in Cotabato City.
