FESTIVITIES will mark the 29th death anniversary of Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino on Tuesday.
The day-long activities will kick off with a fun run that will start at 5 a.m. in Fort San Pedro.
A Holy Mass will follow at the Plaza Independencia at 7 a.m. to be officiated by Msgr. Boy Alesna.
A Walk for Freedom in Fuente Osmeña Circle marching towards Plaza Independencia will be held at 1.p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. program.
A concert at the Plaza Independencia starts at 5 p.m.
A fireworks display also in Plaza Independencia will close the commemoration of the death of Ninoy Aquino at 7 in the evening.
Ninoy has been hailed a national hero for his anti Martial Law activism. His death inspired people to protest against the Marcos dictatorship leading to the People’s Power revolt that placed his widow Cory Aquino in the Presidency.
Pres. Benigno Simeon Aquino III is their only son in a brood of four.
The City Traffic Operations Management (Citom) said “there will be no road closures. But we let our traffic personnel to man the intersections so that runners can cross in to the intersections,” said Rafael Yap, executive director of Citom.
The afternoon parade will occupy one lane of the road, says Yap.
Yap said the flock of people joning the parade will be “pretty manageable number” as expected since there are a lot of participants because it’s a national event.
Yap expects that the Fun Run and the Walk for Freedom would not create any “major inconvenience to motorists” since these occurred outside peak hours and is held on a holiday. /Tweeny M. Malinao, Correspondent
