Firm backs PH green program, plants trees
In support of the national greening program of the government, a Japanese company at the Mactan Economic Zone 2 in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City sponsored a tree planting activity on Aug. 11.
The NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corp. brought its 50 employees to the mountain barangay of Guba in Cebu City to plant 5,000 assorted fruit trees and forest trees.
The Japanese and Filipino staff were headed by assistant production manager, engineer Emylou Cadalzo and environment, health and safety officer engineer Edmond Ouano.
The activity was in partnership with the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines Inc. – Region 7, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, Cebu City Agriculture Office and Kapunongan sa mga banikanhong mag-uuma alang sa ekonomekanhong kalambuan (Kabameka), a farmers organization in sitio Catives I, barangay Guba.
The site in Guba will be developed by Cebu City government into a nature park.
An organic “composting” facility for biodegradable wastes will also be set up in the area.
