GAMES in the opening day of the tertiary football competition of the 2012 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. at the football field of the Cebu City Sports Center ended in draws.
The 1-all draw that ended the opening match between the University of Cebu (UC) and the University of the Visayas (UV) seemed contagious as the next match that featured the 2011 first runner-up University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) going up against the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) also ended in a scoreless draw.
Pedro Agustin Diao found the back of the net for UV while Axel Jay Paril scored the equalizer for UC.
All teams ended with a point each in a tournament, which will follow a single round robin format with the top four teams advancing to the semifinal round.
Both matches were physical and littered with fouls with the referees handing out a total of seven yellow cards and one red card.
USJR will be missing the services of Harold Caga in their next match after he was red carded for collecting two yellow cards for hard fouls.
Tertiary action will resume on Sept. 2 yet to give way to the staging of the regional eliminations of the Milo Little Olympics at the CCSC. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
