Former mayor joins One Cebu fold

A FORMER mayor of Consolacion town signified his support for the candidacies of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and her brother, Rep. Pablo John Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd district during a convention in the municipality yesterday.

Garcia and her brother endorsed former mayor Avelino Gungob Sr. to their One Cebu party during the summit of Gungob’s Movement for Progressive Consolacion (MPC) at the Consolacion Municipal Covered Court, yesterday morning.

The governor, who was included in the senatorial lineup of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) asked the crowd in attendance to support her bid and her brother, who will run for governor in next year’s elections.

Garcia acknowleged Gungob as one of the few officials who supported her candidacy for governor in 2004.

She said Gungob ran for mayor in 2001, the same year her father ran for his last term as governor of the province.

“And now Mayor Avel will again run for Round 2 as a mayor and another Pablo will run as governor,” Garcia said.

She said MPC also stood for “Mo Padayon Consolacion (Onward Consolacion)” as she asked for the crowd’s support.

The first MPC convention also nominated eight of their barangay officials as candidates for Consolacion’s municipal council.

Gungob said the MPC will be a united front behind One Cebu and its chosen national candidates.

Pablo John said One Cebu will meet with other officials in the next few weeks. He said he will announce his runningmate in due time. Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao
