JERON TENG set the record for most points in a single game by a rookie after he torched the National University Bulldogs with 35 points in an 87-76 double overtime win in the 75th UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
It was the most points by any player from the UAAP in the last 10 years. More importantly, Teng scored when the Archers needed it most as he had a three-pointer in the second overtime that gave them an 85-79 lead.
The performance tied the 35-point performance of the reigning MVP Bobby Ray Parks of NU. Teng and Parks scored the most points in the league since Jeff Napa, also of NU, scored 43 points in season 65.
The Bulldogs were down by seven at the start of the fourth but made their move behind Parks and Troy Rosario.
Rosario sent the game to the first overtime.
In the second overtime, Teng and Almond Vosotros each hit a three-pointer for an 85-79 lead but NU did not let up and still came within three./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
