The three Mexican fighters easily made weight yesterday, a clear indication that they are in top shape and ready for tonight’s Pinoy Pride XV: Philippines vs Mexico – The Rematch at the Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Lahug.
While the visiting warriors, Rosbel “Lobo” Montoya (36W-4L-1D, 30KOs), Jorge Pazos (21-3,13KOs) and Angel Martinez (13-2-1,9KOs) had no problems with the scales, the same can’t be said of two of their three Filipino rivals during official weigh-in held at the Activity Center of SM City Cebu.
Montoya and his archrival Filipino Jason “El Niño” Pagara (28W-2L-17KOs) both tipped the scales with 139.5 lbs. They will fight for the WBO International jr. welterweight title in the main event of tye explosive card.
“Everyone will see a great fight and I will make sure that they will enjoy because I know that I am very strong. I prepared hard for this fight because I know that Pagara will also be giving his best,” said Montoya.
Jorge Pazos was two pounds lighter than the 122lbs catch weight as he battles Filipino Genesis “Azukal” Servania (18-0, 7KOs) for the WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight title. Servania though, has to urinate first to shed off the half-pound excess in weight.
“I feel very strong this time because I trained for three months for this fight,” declared Pazos to which Servania replied, “there will be a knock-out. I don’t want to predict at what round but I will do my best,” said Servania.
Martinez was also two pounds lighter than the 140lbs catch weight against Jimrex “Executioner” Jaca (34-6-3, 19KOs) who was three pounds over the limit for their eight-round non title bout.
After several tries, Jaca managed to shed off only two pounds and will be made to wear heavier gloves as a penalty.
GAME PLAN
Pagara’s trainer, Joseph Baldago said they will study Montoya’s style and technique in the first few rounds before going for the kill.
“I patiently wait for the right time to unload my knockout punches. I’m gonna make sure that I will not make this fight a disappointment for me and my fans,” said Pagara.
Meanwhile, Jason’s younger brother Prince Albert Pagara weighed in at 119lbs while his opponent Alvin Maquiling of Bukidnon was a pound and a half heavier. Mark Vincent Bernaldez tipped the scales at 122lbs while his foe Joash Apirecio was two pounds heavier.
Jojo “Flash” Intor, arguably the most entertaining fighter hereabouts, will fight his first foreign opponent in Takaomi Naoma of Japan instead of Peter Aldrin of Bohol. Intor weighed in at 126lbs while Naoma came in at 125.75lbs.
Action starts at 6 p.m.
