‘Give cash instead of fuel rations’

CEBU City Councilor Joey Daluz has suggested converting the fuel allowance of barangays to cash to save on long trips to gas up at the City Hall depot.

Daluz said it was impractical for vehicles assigned to the barangays, especially in the mountains, to go all the way to the General Services Office in the South Road Properties to collect their fuel rations.

By the time they return to their barangay “the newly filled tank would again be half empty.”

Daluz suggested converting the fuel allowance to cash and then reducing by half the 300 liter monthly fuel allowance.

He said this would save on gasoline and still serve the purpose of the allowance.

Daluz said barangay officials can gas up vehicles in the gas station nearest their barangays.

Spending so much on fuel because of an inefficient system is unfair to taxpayers, he said.

Daluz also called on barangay officials to use their fuel rations for only necessary official travels and services.

Last Wednesday, the Cebu city government distributed vehicles to 16 barangays.

The first batch, composed of 24 barangays received their vehicles last August 9.
