SUPERIOR conditioning and teamwork carried the Mabolo Community Basketball Association (MCBA) well over the hastily-formed Cebu Daily News (CDN) Siloy team, 109-67, in an exhibition match held at the Mabolo Sports Center yesterday.
The MCBA squad set the tempo early in the game, scoring on fastbreak baskets by Dante Orendain and Roland Menina, who eventually led MCBA with 14 and 18 points, respectively.
Despite missing three key players in Jonas Panerio, Lito Tecson and Edouard Illut, the Siloys tried to keep pace behind the one-two scoring punch of Calvin Cordova, who netted a game-high 19 points, and Renato “Atoy” Lagunay, who had 16 points.
Also lending a hand for CDN were Neil Tecson, who scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Jay Labra, who added 15 markers.
The MCBA squad also had Chief Insp. Romeo Santander scoring in double figures with 15 points and nearly every member netting at least a basket.
Yesterday’s match was the first in what is expected to be a series of friendly exhibition matches for the CDN Siloys, who seek to establish and expand the paper’s presence in the Metro Cebu community. /Senior Copy Editor Stephen Capillas
