Almost half of voters in INQUIRER.net poll favor total hazing ban
MANILA, Philippines—The highest number of those who voted in the INQUIRER.net poll on the issue of hazing said they favor a total ban on hazing.
A total of 3,622 votes, or 43.58 percent of 8,311 gathered votes, agreed that the Anti-Hazing Law should be amended to “totally ban hazing.”
A total of 2,570 votes, or 30.92 percent, were for making” leaders of fraternities and sororities responsible for the actions of their organizations.”
The least number of votes, 2,119, or 25.5 percent of the total votes, favored banning “fraternities and sororities espousing violence.”
The poll ran from August 1 to 16.
Calls for amending the Anti-Hazing Law, or Republic Act 8049, came following the recent death of San Beda College law student Marc Andrei Marcos. Marcos’ death was preceded by the hazing death earlier this year of another San Beda law student, Marvin Reglos.
