Tabal, Bernido bag China Bank Run top plums

MARY JOY Tabal continued her dominance by winning the women’s 12-kilometer race of the China Bank Fun Run 2011 at the Cebu Business Park yesterday.

But her trainer John Philip Dueñas wasn’t as lucky enough as he yielded the men’s 12k title to fellow Southwestern University (SWU) runner Ian Bernido.

Dueñas and Tabal had won successive titles together in the past races here in Cebu but Bernido spoiled that winning streak in a photo finish.

Bernido barely defeated Dueñas as he was just two seconds ahead of the latter as he finished in 40 minutes and 42 seconds. Dueñas clocked 40:40.

Rounding off the top three runners in the male 12k was Davao’s Joebert Carolino (40:59).

Tabal, also from SWU, clocked 49:19 while Emeralde Hermosilla (58:49) placed second. Leonora Martus claimed third place with a time of 59:49.

Riez Enriquez ruled the 6k run with a time of 21:29 while Amale Jopson, wife of IronMan champion Noy Jopson, lorded the 6k distaff side, clocking 30:26.

3k kiddies fun run winners were Lynle Cardenas and James Anthony Vanguardia.  /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
