Man shot dead after rescuing brother

MANILA, Philippines—A 28-year-old man who went to rescue his younger brother being beaten up was gunned down Wednesday evening, police said Thursday.

The victim, identified as Expedito Rodas, was shot dead by John Rey Francia, 28, on J. Posadas Extension, Punta, Sta. Ana Manila around 5 p.m.

Rodas went to rescue his brother, Rene, who was allegedly being beaten up by the suspect, Police Officer 3 Alonzo Layugan said.

Initial investigation showed that prior to the shooting, an altercation erupted between Rodas and Francia, Layugan said.

He said Rodas backed off and went to their home but returned a few minutes later to the scene. Francia shot Rodas twice, hitting the victim in the head and lower abdomen.

Rodas was brought to the Sta. Ana Hospital but died around 10 p.m. while undergoing treatment.
