Taxi driver robbed and killed in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—He was not just robbed of his day’s earnings but also killed.

Dionilo Orense, driver of a Vilma O. Bell taxi, was found dead with a gunshot wound to his forehead after he was robbed and killed by still unidentified suspects along A. Linao corner Esguerra streets in Malate, Manila, around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Senior Police Officer 2 Glenzor Antonio Vallejo said.

Vallejo said Orense was found lying face down in a pool of blood near his taxi (TYR-731), with all of his personal belongings, including his earnings, missing, after probably stolen by the culprits.

Orense was found by nearby residents who then reported the incident to the Malate Police station 9 through their village chieftain Ernesto Rosales, the investigator said.

He said the victim sustained a lone gunshot wound to the right side of his forehead that exited at the back of his head, causing his instantaneous death.

“Several onlookers milling around the place of incident were interviewed but nobody could give details about the suspects who were seen running along Esguerra Street,” Vallejo said, adding that one Jose Hipolito appeared at the police station around 5 a.m. and identified the victim as his co-driver.
