MANILA, Philippines—High-profile prisoner Rolito Go is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police after he went missing from the New BIlibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City Tuesday night, a PNP spokesman said Thursday.
Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said Go, along with his nephew Clemence Yu, were taken into police custody by PNP’s Anti-Kidnapping Group around 11 p.m. Wednesday in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
In a press conference at 1:30 a.m., radio reports quoted PNP chief, Director General Nicanor Bartlome as saying that Go told police that he and his nephew were released by their alleged kidnappers in Tanauan, Batangas, and then took a bus to Alabang where they were taken by police.
Bartolome said Go’s family claimed that there was no ransom paid for their release, amid earlier claims that kidnappers demanded a P1 million ransom for the two’s liberty.
No other information was available, Cerbo said, adding that police have yet to establish every circumstance as “there are still some information that conflicts the other.”
Go was convicted for shooting and killing Eldon Maguan, 25, during a road rage fit in 1991.
Another media briefing with Bartolome is scheduled to take place around 10 a.m. Thursday, Cerbo Jr. said. With a report from Matikas Santos
