MANILA, Philippines—The body of a man who bore gunshot wounds was found floating in a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority pumping station pond in Manila a little after midnight Wednesday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 2 Glenzor Vallejo of Manila Police District’s homicide section described the still unidentified victim to be around 30 to 35 years old. He was clad in a printed while t-shirt bearing words “Tau Gamma Phi” and black short pants.

Vallejo said the victim’s body was found by utility man Jerry Javoli while he was gathering garbage from the MMDA’s flood control pumping station along Palanca Street, Quiapo, Manila, around 12:20 a.m.

“The victim was lying face down in the horizontal conveyor together with the collected garbage,” Vallejo said.

Javoli immediately reported his discovery to the MMDA head office, which then relayed the information to police authorities.

The body, which was already in an “advanced state of decomposition,” sustained wounds near his left ear, which appeared to be bullet wounds.

Further investigation was underway to identify the victim as well as perpetrator of the crime, Vallejo said.
