THE parents of the 6-year-old boy who was accidentally shot dead during a quarrel of older relatives at home asked the Cordova police to file murder charges against the grandfather yesterday.
Marcia Orbiso, mother of John Orchez Orbiso, said the murder charge would keep 48-year-old Tito Sanchez in jail.
Sanchez tried to keep his 9mm handgun during a fight with John’s uncle Ramil Sanchez.
“I’m scared for myself and my husband. He may retaliate against us when he gets drunk,” Marcia said. Tito was drunk when he figured in a fight with Ramil last Monday.
But Cordova police said they could only file a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the elder Sanchez.
Tito also faced frustrated homicide for shooting his nephew Ramil several times.
The two cases were filed yesterday afternoon at the Cordova-Consolacion Municipal Circuit Trial Court. Ramil is still confined in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Marcia told Cebu Daily News that John struggled to live despite the gunshot wound he sustained in his chest.
“He kept calling ‘Mama’ and cried in the hospital,” a teary-eyed Marcia told reporters.
The boy will be buried on Friday or Monday next week. Correspondent Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
