Widow robbed, killed at home

A 63-year-old widow was robbed and killed inside her house in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.

The body of Ligaya Dungon was found at past 8 a.m. yesterday lying face down on top of a bed. The woman was found with only a bra on and her private part bleeding. Her head was covered with a bathrobe and two pieces of cloth.

Based on initial police investigation, Dungon, a cosmetic product dealer and pensioner, was probably suffocated by her assailant using the bathrobe.

Dungon’s son, Archie, 33, who lives in Naga City in southern Cebu, told police that his mother’s two cell phones and a bag with an undetermined amount of cash were missing and believed to be taken by her assailant or assailants.

Archie rushed to Lapu-Lapu City from Naga after learning of his mother’s death.

Archie said this year, burglars hit Dungon’s home twice.

He said the first time, burglars  stole a CDI from Archie’s Multicab parked outside the house and the second time, they stole some of his mother’s belongings.

Insp. Precilo Libato, team leader of the Lapu-Lapu City Scene of the Crime, said Dungon was probably attacked when she arrived home after visiting a relative at past 10 p.m. on Monday.

Her body was found yesterday morning by her grandson, Ian Tampus, 19, who checked to see why Dungon’s door was open.

Tampus entered the house and saw it in disarray. He later found his grandmother dead inside the bedroom. He sought help from an aunt living nearby, who called the police.

Violeta Lacay, a neighbor, told police that she was awakened by a sound of somebody calling for help at past 10 p.m. but she thought she was just dreaming when the surroundings became silent.

Police said Dungon’s body will be autopsied to determine the cause of her death and to find out if she was raped.
