MANILA, Philippines—After Tropical Storm “Helen” made a landfall past Tuesday midnight on Palanan town in Isabela, Governor Faustino Dy III said in a radio interview at around 8 a.m. Wednesday the skies have become clearer and there were no reported injured residents or major damage in properties in the province.
“Mahinahon na. Maliwanag na. Maambon ambon na lang (It’s calm now. The skies are clear. There’s only drizzle here),” Dy told anchors Den Macaranas, Susan K and Captain Dylan Halili of “Good Morning Inquirer” on Radyo Inquirer 990 A.M.
The governor said the province was not heavily affected by the southwest monsoon that wreaked havoc in Metro Manila and nearby provinces last week.
He added he’s thankful even the rice, corn and cassava plantations in Isabela were spared from total destruction.
“We have electricity and roads are passable. At any rate, our rescue teams are ready for any eventualities,” said Dy.
