RWS Gym boxers to fight for reg’l belts in Thailand
Romnick Magos and Fernando Ocon of the RWS gym of Labangon, Cebu City are scheduled to fight for regional titles in Thailand this month.
Magos (7W-1L, 3 KOs) will face Thai Rusalee Samor (17W-3L-1D, 8 KOs) for the IBF Pan Pacific flyweight title on Aug. 17. The 21 year old Magos has won four straight bouts since suffering his only career loss to Virgilio Silvano last year. Magos’ last fight was a ten round unanimous decision win over Roemart Sentillas in Lapu-lapu City last February.
The 28 year-old Samor won the Pan Pacific title last year by beating Filipino Ryan Tampus by unanimous decision in Bangkok. He has defended his title twice against Geboi Mansalayao of the Philippines and Johan Wahyudi of Thailand. Magos will be fighting abroad for just the first time.
Ocon (10W-1L, 2 KOs) will be fighting for the WBO Oriental flyweight title against another Thai, Kwanpichit 13 Rien Express on August 13. The 30 year-old Kwanpichit is the undefeated defending champion with a record of 16 wins, 6 by knockout. He won the Oriental title by beating Noel Adelmita of Bohol by 5th round knockout last March in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Ocon’s last bout was a 9th round TKO win over Aroel Romasasa last March in San Fernando for the PBF flyweight title. The 21 year-old Ocon will be fighting abroad also for the first time.
Trainer Juanito Ablaca will be accompanying Magos while with his assistant trainer Eper Tepora will assist Ocon during their respective fights. Eper is the brother of Pingping Tepora, the trainer of IBF lt.flyweight world champion Johnriel Casimero.
