JRU routs Letran
THE JOSE Rizal University Heavy Bombers took the momentary lead in the standings after they thrashed the Letran Knights, 101-83, in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
The lopsided win gave the Heavy Bombers of head coach Vergel Meneses a 7-2 (win-loss) record while it dropped the inconsistent Knights to an even 4-4.
The victory was also a nice bounceback for JRU after it lost badly to the San Beda Red Lions, 37-62.
John Villarias put up career-high numbers of 29 points in a stunning display of offense, where he virtually scored from all over the floor. Top gunner Nate Matute also had a productive day as he added 23 markers.
