MANILA, Philippines – A new police regional director has been appointed in the Caraga region in Mindanao after the previous director was relieved for failure to curb illegal logging activities.
Chief Superintendent Carmelo Valmoria was named by Director General Nicanor Bartolome, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, as the new regional director of Police Regional Office 13 Caraga, PNP Spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo said in a statement Monday.
Valmoria, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy “Sandigan” Class of 1982, was previously Director of the Headquarters Support Service and Base Commander of Camp Crame.
The Caraga regional director, Agusan del Sur provincial director, and six town chiefs of police, were previously relieved of duty for failure to stop illegal loggers in the region.
“Heads will roll if logs will continue to roll,” Bartolome said in the statement reiterating President Benigno Aquino III’s directive to the police force to help in the government’s intensified drive against anti-illegal logging.
