MANILA, Philippines– A bomb scare allegedly sent by an anonymous texter disrupted what would have been an ordinary evening at the female inmates’ quarters in Quezon City on Sunday.
An intensive search of the premises, located right inside the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) headquarters, later found no explosives.
Inspector Noel Sublay, head of the explosives and ordnance division, said the bomb scare was reported to them at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Quezon City Jail’s female dormitory inside the QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Barangay (village) Sikatuna Village, houses women detainees facing criminal offenses.
The main QCJ building, which houses male inmates, is located along Edsa in Barangay Kamuning.
Chief Insp. Elena Rocamora, warden of the female dorm, said she received a text message from an unidentified sender warning of a bomb inside the female inmates’ quarters.
The text message claimed that the explosive was planted by a male visitor of one of the inmates.
That evening, an EOD team went over to the female dormitory to conduct a search for the reported bomb.
Sublay said their search did not yield any explosive or suspicious object. They eventually declared the area safe.
