/ 08:10 PM August 12, 2012

ILOILO CITY—Ilonggos will send help for flood victims in Luzon despite being battered by flooding themselves.

The Archdiocese of Jaro on Saturday launched a campaign for donation of cash, food and relief goods for flood victims in Metro Manila and Central and Southern Luzon.

“In the midst of our own need, we should still be charitable to those whose needs are greater,” Msgr. Meliton Oso, director of the Jaro  Archdiocesan Social Action Center (Jasac), told the Inquirer on Sunday.

He said the campaign was launched even as they were also responding to the needs of affected communities in Iloilo.

Oso said appeals have been sent to the 94 parishes of the Archdiocese of Jaro covering Iloilo and Guimaras provinces, members of religious orders, lay organizations and the public for donations.

He said even before the launching of the donation campaign, relief goods were already being delivered at the Jasac office from individuals and groups moved by the plight of flood victims in Manila and neighboring areas.

The donations will be channeled to the dioceses of flood-ravaged areas.

Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has asked departments and offices of the City Hall to donate relief goods and cash.

The donations will be collected on Aug. 17 for transport to Metro Manila, according to a memorandum.
