Pedicab driver gunned down in Manila

MANILA, Philippines – A pedicab driver was gunned down by still unidentified motorcycle riding men in Manila Sunday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 2 Amelito Lopez identified the victim as Alex Hilario, 39, a “kuliglig” (motorized pedicab) driver.

He was shot several times by two assailants on Mayhaligue Street corner Abad Santos Street in Tondo, Manila around 11:30 a.m.

Police said Hilario was on his motorized pedicab when the perpetrators on a black motorcycle with no plate number arrived and shot the victim three times in the back.

Hilario was rushed to the Metropolitan Medical Center but was pronounced dead on arrival by his attending physician. The killers fled to unknown direction, police said.

Lopez said further investigation is now underway to determine the motive behind the attack, as well as for the possible identification and capture of the killers. Jamie Marie Elona
