Welder falls to his death from bank roof

A welder fell to  his death while working on a two-story building in barangay Sambag Dos, Cebu City, on Friday afternoon.

Desiderio Avanceñe later died from severe injuries in  different parts of the body on his way to  the Visayas Community Medical Center.

Police said Avanceñe first hit a live wire before landing on the concrete  pavement.

He was hired   to work on  renovations at the rooftop of the building occupied by  United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) on Osmeña Boulevard.

A co-worker, Romeo Dequido, told investigators that he and Avanceñe were working on the rooftop past 5 p.m. when they decided to go down to drink water.

Dequido said his workmate went up ahead.  He said he later heard   a loud thud and saw the commotion in the ground floor where Avanceñe was found slumped.
