Inday Nita, Iyo Karpo Capitol’s lifetime awardees

THEIR legacy in music, entertainment and the media industry made them the Capitol’s choice for this year’s Garbo sa Sugbo posthumous lifetime achievement awards.

The awardees to be honored tonight at the Capitol social hall are Emilio “Maestro Mil” Villareal, Domingo “Minggoy” Lopez, Wenceslao “Ben” Zubiri, and Nenita Cortes Daluz.

“They have passed away but they really deserve this commendation and accolade from us Cebuanos because of what they were able to do during their lifetime,” said Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Villareal is recognized for his classic Visayan compositions and contribution to the Cebuano music industry. His compositions include Bisan sa Damgo Lang which was sung by Pilita Corrales and Dulce.

Awardee Lopez is known as Cebu’s Music Man because his compositions were expressions of the Cebuano soul. His compositions include the Rosang Pandan and Kagahapon og Karon.

Zubiri, also known as Iyo Karpo, composed the classic Visayan ballad, Matud Nila.

Daluz, known in the airwaves as Inday Nita, is recognized for her contribution to the Cebuano broadcast industry. She was a media figure, member of parliament and anti-Martial Law activist.

The Capitol will also honor Latvian Consul Robert “Bobby Lim Joseph the Governor’s Medal of Merit for his promotion of Cebu and its tourism industry.

Garbo sa Sugbo awardees include Consul Enrique Benedicto, Consul Roberto Aboitiz, Dr. Melquiadito Allego, Joseph Yap, Dr. Milagros Espina, lawyers Democrito Mendoza and Augusto Go, and Jose Eleazar Bersales. /Carmel Loise Matus
