MANILA, Philippines – The Manila City government can now use about P200 million of its funds to help those affected by massive floods caused by heavy rains since Tuesday.
The Manila City Council approved the release of the amount in a resolution following Manila’s declaration of a state of calamity.
The amount will be sourced from the city’s existing budget and the 2013 executive budget of the City of Manila.
Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno told reporters that the barangays (villages) can also use their calamity funds to help residents who were affected by floods.
The Manila Disaster and Risk Reduction Office on Wednesday said 80 percent of Manila was flooded.
There are 897 barangays in Manila.
