Security guard arrested after phone snatching

A SECURITY guard was arrested after he allegedly connived with a fellow security guard in a cell phone robbery in barangay Sambag, Cebu City.

Jemar Osabel allegedly connived with Michael Maricota, who was accused of stealing the Blackberry cell phone of African Shiloh Bonya, 20, a dentistry student of a university in Cebu City.

Maricota, remains at large.

Osabel claimed that he and Maricota were security guards employed by Gesa Security Agency.

The security agency, however, said that Osabel and Maricota have already been terminated by the agency last February, said PO2 Carlo Balasoto.

Bonya told police that she was walking on R. Landon Street on her way to school around 9 a.m. yesterday when a man on a motorcycle grabbed her cell phone.

Bonya was dragged after she refused to let go of her cell phone.

Bonya sustained bruises in the body and was treated in hospital.

Responding policeman found a motorcycle whose description fit the motorcycle used by the thief parked outside the Robs Pension House in R. Landon Street.

Osabel was detailed at the pension house.

Police asked Osabel if he knew the owner of the motorcycle. Osabel answered in the negative.

Police reviewed the security camera of the pension house and saw Osabel talking to the driver of the motorcycle before he left.

Osabel was brought to the police station where he admitted that Maricota drove the motorcycle.

Osabel said Maricota used to be his inspector./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
