Boil or purify water to avoid diarrhea outbreaks—DoH

MANILA, Philippines—Purify or boil water, the Department of Health advised Filipinos in flooded areas to avoid outbreaks of diarrhea.

Health Secretary Enrique Ona today urged the public to take precautions amid possible contamination of potable water following the continuous heavy rainfall and flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

“Water must be purified to ensure that it is clean and fit for human consumption. Water that is not safe to drink can make you sick from a few hours or up to several weeks after taking it,” Ona said.

Pure clean water must be used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and other activities avoid outbreaks of diarrhea.

“Clear water is not necessarily safe to drink. Purifying it by boiling or disinfection will make it potable,” Ona explained.
