5,000 residents evacuated in parts of Metro Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Incessant heavy rains spawned by the southwest monsoon has evacuated over 5,000 persons in parts of Metro Manila as of posting time, the Office of Civil Defense in National Capital Region said Monday.

While some have gone home earlier, 5,148 persons remained at evacuation centers in Navotas, Malabon, Manila, Marikina, Valenzuela, Quezon City and Muntinlupa as of Monday afternoon said OCD NCR Director Susana Cruz.

In Navotas, 690 persons were still at evacuation centers; 140 persons in Malabon; 260 persons in Manila; 1,034 persons in Marikina; 1,344 persons in Valenzuela; 1,583 persons in Quezon City; 97 persons in Muntinlupa.

Portions of these areas were also impassable due to floods.
