MANILA, Philippines—Lauro Vizconde on Monday filed a disbarment complaint against acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio.
In his complaint, Vizconde accused Carpio of using his position to allegedly manipulate various appointments in the government since he worked as Presidential Legal Counsel of former President Fidel V. Ramos.
The complaint also alleged that Carpio used his influence over former President now Pampanga Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo so that he will be appointed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
Vizconde is the husband of the late Estrellita Vizconde and father of late Carmela and Anne Marie Jennifer Vizconde, all murdered 1n June 1991.
Vizconde also reiterated what he had stated in his opposition to Carpio’s possible appointment as Chief Justice that the magistrate allegedly lobbied for the acquittal of those previously convicted for the murder of Estrellita, Carmela and Anne Marie Jennifer.
The high court, according to acting Spokesperson Gleo Guerra, said the disbarment complaint will be tackled at the high court’s en banc (full court) session Tuesday.
