Be visible, PNP chief tells cops

National Police Chief Director General Raul M. Bacalzo on Friday ordered increased police visibility in the streets of Metro Manila following a spate of unsolved killings and car thefts in Quezon City.

He said he reminded the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to ensure that “policemen will be visible in the streets 24/7” and sustain more foot patrols and checkpoints.

These steps, he said, would ensure “maximum (police visibility).”

The Philippine National Police chief gave the orders after the killings of Chinese national Shao Huai Huang and Simon Pangan on Saturday and Sunday.

No arrests have been made in connection with the killings and police remain clueless.

Bacalzo said he saw common denominators in the unrelated cases—the two victims were businessmen and the suspects were motorcycle-riding criminals.

He also ordered NCRPO Director Alan Purisima to step up the campaign against motorcycle-riding criminals.

All major thoroughfares in Metro Manila, based on Bacalzo’s order, would see more frequent patrols and checkpoints.

Purisima, acting on Bacalzo’s order, ordered the Quezon City Police District to enforce stiffer security measures after the two killings that were perpetrated by motorcycle suspects wearing dark jackets.

The Quezon City police said it was conducting “a deep and thorough investigation” to identify and arrest the suspects in the two killings. DJ Yap
