SEVEN armed men barged into a Bank of the Philippine Islands branch along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City minutes before closing time on Friday, and took with them cash from the tellers’ booths.
SPO2 Roldan Dapat, of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said the suspects failed to open the bank vault because policemen had responded immediately to the robbery.
The suspects had quickly disarmed the security guards as they entered the bank at around 4:30 p.m.
QCPD Station 6 policemen on roving patrol duty spotted the suspects as they were leaving the bank premises and engaged them in a brief fire fight.
Two bystanders were hit in the shoot-out and were brought to New Era Hospital on Commonwealth Avenue. None of the bank’s clients or staff was harmed.
No information was made available on how much cash was taken by the robbers. Nancy C. Carvajal
