Before the attack, Romnick had a drinking session while playing a card game with Felipe Survilla Jr. and Cuizon outside Felipe’s house.

During the course of the drinking session, Romnick and Cuizon argued. It was not clear what the argument was all about.

The argument escalated when Romnick and Cuizon figured in a fistfight. Police said Romnick’s brother pacified the two men and pulled Romnick away from Cuizon.

Romnick returned moments later and allegedly threw stones at Cuizon’s house.  Cuizon and Survilla chased Romnick.

Police said Survilla grabbed Romnick while Cuizon stabbed the victim with a bolo. Romnick died on the spot.

Police recovered the bolo in the crime scene. They  said Survilla denied involvement in the crime, saying he just pacified Romnick.

Police said an old grudge was the possible motive behind the killing of James Ronald Castano.

The suspect identified only as Butsoy Bagang  fled after the attack. Castano was found slumped on the ground with stab wounds in the chest and back.

Police said Castano had accused the suspect of having an affair with his 34-year-old wife Gina.
