MANILA, Philippines – An overflowed creek which caused floods in parts of Fairview and the threats of La Mesa Dam in Quezon City reaching its spilling level prompted the evacuation of over 1,000 persons near the area since Sunday night, the Office of Civil Defense said Monday.
In Masambong village, 60 families were evacuated in the nearby covered court; 15 families or 60 individuals in Sta. Lucia were evacuated in the covered court, parish church and barangay hall; and 424 families or 1,259 persons in Bagong Silangan were moved to the covered court and Brookside Elementary School, said OCD Director Susana Cruz.
Cruz said five families in Payatas were moved to Lourdes Chapel; four families from Damayan village and 20 families from Fairview village were moved to the barangay hall; and 90 families in Gulod and 19 individuals from Dona Imelda villages were also evacuated.
La Mesa Dam is on red alert status after reached its spilling level of 80.15 meters at 3a.m. As of 8a.m., it was at 80.14 meters.
