11 hurt as bus rams 16 tricycles, vehicles in Ilocos

CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur—At least 11 people, seven of them high school students, were hurt when a bus hit a row of 16 parked vehicles, mostly tricycles, along the national highway in Barangay Bagani Campo here on Friday.

Police said the La Union-bound bus, driven by Cesar Pescador, 36, first hit road signs placed in front of the Candon National High School before it slammed into the tricycles waiting for passengers outside the school at 12:09 p.m.

Police said Pescador lost control of the steering wheel when the bus’ brakes failed as it approached the school. The bus was carrying at least 10 passengers.

The victims were taken hospitals in this city and in nearby La Union, police said.
