5 hurt in ship collision off Cebu

MANILA, Philippines—A passenger ship collided with a cargo vessel off Cebu Thursday evening, leaving five people, including a child, slightly injured, the Philippine Coast Guard said.

Cargo ship LCT Sto. Niño and passenger vessel MV Jadestar Tres crashed at around 8 p.m. near Shell Island and Talisay City in Cebu, Coast Guard spokesman Lieutenant Commodore Algier Ricafrente said Friday.

The injured passengers were identified as Rolando Mera, 42, Samson Omabrosa, 59, Mercides Hongko, 87, Aniceto Torremucha, 27, and Daniel Inot, 1 year and eight months old.

They suffered “slight bruises” during the impact, said Ricafrente.
