Actor Aga Muhlach now member of Aquino party
Wearing a yellow “Proud to be a Liberal” pin, actor Aga Muhlach on Friday took a plunge into politics, taking his oath as a member of the ruling Liberal Party and saying he was ready to take on the powerful Fuentebella clan of Camarines Sur.
Muhlach, Ariel Aquino Muhlach in real life, took his oath before LP president and Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas and other party bigwigs at the LP headquarters in Cubao, Quezon City.
The actor said he would run for a House seat in the fourth district of Camarines Sur, the bailiwick of the Fuentebellas.
“I’m ready for anything. If there’s a will, there’s a way,” Muhlach said after he took his oath.
“I’m 43 years old and I’m joining politics because I want to serve the people. I was impressed when P-Noy took over and banned the wangwang. I was impressed. It started there. I saw that change can really happen,” he added.
When asked how he intended to unseat the Fuentebellas, Muhlach replied: “The people. If people want change, then there’s going to be change. It’s as simple as that.”
“I will work hard. I will go around,” he said.
Muhlach said he sought the help of Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo to enter LP. “I was the one who knocked on their door,” he said.
Robredo, also a Bicolano, acknowledged that Muhlach faces an uphill battle against the Fuentebellas.
Muhlach, however, will be supported by several mayors in Camarines Sur, said Robredo.
