IT WILL BE THE Southwestern University Cobras’ turn to unveil their latest weapon in their quest for glory as highly touted Cameroonian Ben Mbala debuts today against the University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.
The University of the Visayas saw their Nigerian pick-up Steve Akomo get rave reviews in his first game in the Cesafi against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, where he tallied monster stats of 17 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and five blocks.
Now, it’s Mbala’s turn to show off as he teams up with his fellow countryman Justin Aboude to finish the job that the Cobras came up short on in the finals of last year’s tournament.
The Raul Alcoseba-mentored Cobras also have several other weapons in store with wingman Bon Guillena and point guard Steve Nalos along with former Cebu Institute of Technology-University sniper Steve Lopez.
The Jaguars are coming off a rousing victory in their first game, where they outclassed the University of San Carlos Warriors, 82-78.
Head coach Edito Salacot will have his usual array of skilled players to choose in this game led by Popoy Sulaiman, who had 21 against USC, and James Regalado, who tallied 16./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
