MANILA, Philippines – Two communist rebels were killed in a clash with government troops Thursday afternoon, the military said Friday.
Members of the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion encountered with a group of New People’s Army under Sandatahang Platun Pangpropaganda 3, Guerilla Front 4B, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee in Ampianga village, Subongcogon, Misamis Oriental at about 5:30 p.m., said Major Eugenio Osias IV of the 4th Infantry Division.
The soldiers clashed with about 30 rebels, which led to the recovery of one garand and one carbine rifle and 30 backpacks.
The rebels were said to have been extorting money from civilians prior to the operations.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Romeo Gapuz of the 403rd Brigade has ordered pursuit operations.
