MANILA, Philippines- -A “prominent” and “well-known” person in Cavite is now talking to Gian Veluz to get him to surface, a police spokesman said Friday.

“We are now pursuing  a third party which could be instrumental for the surfacing of Gian Veluz,” Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr., Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman, told reporters in a briefing.

Cerbo did not disclose the identity of the third party “mediator” saying the investigation is still on-going. He described the mediator as “prominent” and “well-known” in Cavite.

Gian Veluz is one of the suspects for the death of San Beda freshman law student Marc Andre Marcos, who died after being beaten to death at a fraternity initiation rite in a Cavite cock farm owned by his father.

Veluz was identified when he, along with another man, brought the badly beaten Marcos to the hospital Sunday night.

“Hopefully this will yield positive results,” Cerbo said.

He said that the “mediator” was approached by the Veluz family, including Gian, and was now coordinating with the police. “We now have a line of communication,” Cerbo said.

“We are open to the possibility that this mediator can bring Gian Veluz to the police,” Cerbo added.

Cerbo said that manhunt operations for Veluz, as well as other members of the fraternity involved in the hazing, will still continue.
