Game today:
Araneta Coliseum
6:45 p.m.- B-Meg vs. Rain or Shine
After failing in their first try, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters tonight take their second of three chances of nailing their first-ever crown. They better treat this as their last chance.
The Elasto Painters try to avoid a dangerous Game 7 as they look to finish off the B-Meg Llamados in Game 6 of their best-of-seven championship duel of the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Rain or Shine has yet to win a crown since joining the league in 2006. They had a chance to do just that last Wednesday but B-Meg had other things in mind, winning Game 5, 91-81, and trimming the Painters’ lead, 2-3. Despite the loss, Rain or Shine head coach Yeng Guiao remains confident that his team can still win the series.
“Na-delay lang ng kaunti, pero amin din iyan,” Guiao said in a pba.ph report.
For them to finally wrap up the series, Guiao said his wards must work double hard in rebounding and must get better shot selection.
“We’re back to our perennial problem—rebounding. We gave them 25 offensive rebounds and that means 25 extra possessions for them and that’s hard to survive,” Guiao said.
“We know they’re bigger and longer. We have to work harder to get in good rebounding position,” Guiao added.
James Yap helped the Llamados extend their season by scoring a personal conference-high 30 points in Game 5.
B-Meg still found a way to dominate the rebounding department despite the absence of rebounding demon Marc Pingris, who rested an aching neck.
“We’ve got back to basics playing to who we are, playing what’s just in front of us. Focus is no longer on winning the championship but on winning the next game,” said B-Meg coach Tim Cone.
