Aside from school supplies, a 16-year-old high school student from Talisay City also had a deadly weapon in his bag.
Mario (real name withheld) was arrested by the principal of San Isidro Night High School after a .22 magnum revolver was found in his bag last Tuesday.
Mario was turned over to the Talisay City police by the school principal Gaudencio Barde.
The boy was also accused of pointing a gun at a female classmate last July 24.
The girl’s mother told police that during the incident, the boy bragged to her daughter that he wouldn’t hesitate to punch a female classmate.
The boy then grabbed the girl, pointed a gun at her and warned her not to report to someone or she would be killed, said the mother.
SPO1 Mikie Espina of the Talisay City police said the boy told them that he brought the gun for self-defense. The boy said he was just joking when he pointed the gun at his classmate.
Yesterday, Mario and the girl’s parents faced off at the Talisay City police precinct. The boy’s parents apologized to the girl’s parents and asked for their son’s release.
Police released the teenage student after the girl’s parents decided not to file charges.
Supt. Woodrow Denuyo, head of the Department of Education-Talisay City Division, said they will investigate further how a student was able to bring a gun in the school premises and it there was any liability on the part of school administrators.
Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said she was surprised after learning about the incident and wanted it looked into further.
