Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday launch the 30-second television advertisement on Cebu.
In the ad, Governor Garcia who served as the narrator focused on the message of Cebu becoming number 1 in business and investment, job generation, tourism and in service.
The ad saw Governor Garcia pitching: “The success of Cebu is of the entire Philippines.”
With the ‘1 Philippines’ icon popping in and out of the screen, the scene may have been the segway to the governor’s new political venture.
The governor who is gunning for a seat in the Senate in 2013 has transformed her One Cebu theme, which itself is the name of her local political party to One Philippines.
The governor also invited the viewers to come and celebrate the 443rd founding anniversary of the province of Cebu.
The video showed Garcia wearing a black polo shirt with the printed message “Gwen loves Cebu” at the left side of the shirt.
She also said in the ad that the “success of Cebu is the success of the entire Philippines” where a video of the map of the Philippines was shown with the number one sign.
The ad ended with the governor inviting people to come to Cebu.
“Tara na Cebu (Let’s go to Cebu),” she said.
Transition
Governor Garcia also waxed sentimental when she recalled her eight-year effort to unite the province against forces who want to divide it during the opening salvo of the province’s 443rd anniversary yesterday.
“A few tears welled my eyes especially when I also remembered, as a newly installed governor, I was facing a poll protest,” she said.
Today, she added, “I again faced charges that have been proven baseless and unanswered pushed by those who wish to unseat me because they cannot accept me as governor of Cebu.
“Cebu that has remained as one province. winning over the threat of Sugbuak. Somehow what was once a deeply divided province became one united Cebu,” she added.
In her audience were 26 mayors out of the 52 towns and cities of the province.
Political alignments and realignments she said is adding some uncertainty for the province.
“How will Cebu province be after my term?,” she asked.
Among the prominent figures present were Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr., former vice mayor Don Durano and Boboy Durano, who was reported to be in the short list of One Cebu Party’s choice for vice governor.
In an interview, Boboy said that initially they already had a talk with One Cebu and that he is keeping his options open.
Boboy said that he would give way to a candidate that is deserving to run for vice governor.
