Bam Aquino courts Cebuano support

ANOTHER member of the Aquino family wants to try his luck in politics and run for senator, that is, if he gets the endorsement of the Liberal Party (LP) of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

 
Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, best known for his an advocacy for social entrepreneurship, visited Cebu yesterday to join the commemoration of the 3rd death anniversary of the late president Corazon Aquino III, his aunt.

 
“I also hope to get the Cebuanos’ support,” said Bam, 35.

 
He attended a 9:30 a.m. mass for the late president at the Sacred Heart Parish.

 
Bam Aquino was acompanied by Miguel Magpale, son of Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, in his Cebu sortie.

 
Bam later attended youth fora at the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) and the University of Cebu where he spoke about the Hapinoy Store Program, which encourages home-based women to set up sari-sari stores to augment their family income.

 
This is part of the advocacy of the MicroVentures Foundation where he is president.

 
Aquino said that he is part of LP’s shortlist of 15 to 16 names of possible Senate candidates.

 
Bam Aquino is the youngest of three sons of Paolo Aquino, who is younger brother of former senator Ninoy Aquino.

 
Bam has been in government service as commissioner of the National Youth Commission in 2001 and as its national president in 2003.
